Increase Your Productivity

It can be tough to stay productive as a small business owner. You have so many things going on in your life, and it may seem like there is never enough time in the day to get everything done that you need to do.

The good news is that there are some great tips out there for how small business owners can become more productive throughout their day. In this blog post, we will cover 12 ways that any small business owner can use!

Getting More Done

  1.  Pomodoro Technique

This technique is one of the simplest time management techniques you can learn. The basic idea behind it is that when you are working on a task, set your timer for 25 minutes and then work without interruption until the timer finishes. After finishing 25 minutes of uninterrupted work, take a break.

Even the busiest of people need breaks in their daily routines. Taking just one short five-minute walk can help you clear your head so that you are more productive when it comes time for the next task at hand. So make sure to schedule some time every day where you get the chance to regroup.

  1. Have a Plan

One of the biggest keys to being productive is having a plan. This includes things like knowing what you need to do today and setting daily goals that align with long-term strategies. You’ll also need to figure out how much time you have in your day for other unexpected tasks that might pop up (and they will!).

The best time to plan your day is the night before. This will help you get an idea of what needs to be done and when it needs to be completed. You’ll be able to start the next day with a clear-cut plan of action to tackle.

  1. Prioritize

Know your priorities and what you need to accomplish. Make a list of tasks that are important for the day, week, or month ahead so that it’s clear in which order things should get done. Having this list can help guide decisions about where time is best spent during the workday.

  1. Schedule

Once you’ve prioritized your tasks, assign chunks of time to get them done. Schedule everything on your list that needs to be completed during the day and week, including meetings, presentations, phone calls, etc., so there is a clear sense of what needs to be accomplished every day.

  1. Set Realistic Goals.

It’s important for small business owners to set achievable and not lofty goals;  otherwise, you will be setting yourself up for failure. You should break larger goals into smaller steps so that they are more manageable.

  1. Start Early

Be a morning person. If you are waking up early and getting to work before the sun is shining, then it’s easier for your brain to wake up with you. This will help you be more productive by getting things done earlier in the day while you have more energy.

By tackling those high-priority tasks first thing in the morning before normal working hours, you’ll have fewer disruptions. You’ll get more done without the phone ringing and people knocking on your door every five minutes.

  1. Organize Your Workspace

There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to find important documents, emails, phone numbers, or items required to accomplish a task. It’s important to organize your work so that it’s more streamlined. Some ways to do this include:

  • Create email folders and file incoming mail appropriately.

  • Allow time blocks in your calendar for everything, including breaks and lunch.

  • Organize your desk so that you can find what you need quickly.

  • Create folders and sub-folders on your computer that are specific and named meaningfully so you know where to find electronic files.

  1. Delegate

Most small business owners have an endless to-do list. You wear many hats and lots of responsibilities. But you’re still only human, with a finite number of hours in a day and limited energy. You just can’t do it all.

It’s important to know where your strengths and talents are best used and when you need assistance. One area you can delegate is your bookkeeping and accounting. Just make sure you hire a company that can meet your needs.
